About this Visa

This visa lets you study full-time at an Australian school, university, or vocational training center. You can study bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, PhDs, or shorter courses. The visa lasts as long as your course, up to 5 years maximum. While studying, you can work part-time (up to 48 hours every two weeks during school) and work full-time during official breaks. You can bring your spouse and children with you. After you finish your course, you can apply for another visa to work and eventually become a permanent resident. This is the main visa that international students use to study in Australia.

Eligibility & Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: At least 6 years old. For high school: Year 9 under 17, Year 10 under 18, Year 11 under 19, Year 12 under 20
  • English: IELTS 6.0+ (no band below 5.5) OR PTE 50+. Test must be from last 2 years
  • Course: Must be enrolled in real, full-time course at official Australian school or university
  • Health: Must pass health check if asked. No serious diseases
  • Character: No serious crimes. Must pass police background check
  • Genuine student: Must prove you really want to study, understand your course, and have plan for after graduation
  • Money: Must prove you can afford tuition and living costs

Financial Requirement

Must have AUD $29,710 per year for living costs (for you alone) plus course fees plus money for spouse/children if they come. OR show parents/sponsor earn AUD $87,856 per year (no dependents) or AUD $102,500 per year (with dependents). Must show bank statements, loan letters, or sponsor proof.
