About this Visa

This visa lets non-EU spouses join their EU/EEA partner in Belgium. If both of you are EU/EEA citizens, you do not need this visa—you can just move freely. This visa is for situations where at least one person is not an EU citizen. Once you arrive in Belgium, you get a residence card that lets you work without restrictions. You can also bring your children with you. EU/EEA citizens with EU/EEA spouses use a different, free visa pathway instead.

Key Benefits

  • Work freely without needing a separate work permit
  • Bring your spouse and children with you
  • Access Belgian healthcare (you must get health insurance)
  • Travel within Europe once you have your residence card
  • Path to permanent residence after 5 continuous years
  • Path to Belgian citizenship after 5 years (if you learn the language)
