About this Visa

The Swiss "G Permit" is a work permit for people who live in a neighboring country but work in Switzerland. It is active and accepting applications in 2025. It is designed for commuters who return to their home outside Switzerland at least once a week. This permit lets you earn a Swiss salary while keeping your home abroad. You do not live in Switzerland with this permit. You must be a citizen of the EU/EFTA or a permanent resident of a neighboring country to qualify.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must live outside Switzerland in a neighboring country
  • You must work in Switzerland
  • You must return to your home abroad at least once a week
  • Non-EU Citizens: Must have lived in the neighboring border zone for at least 6 months
  • Non-EU Citizens: Must hold a permanent residence permit in that neighboring country
