About this Visa
The Type R visa lets you live permanently in Colombia. You can work, study, start a business, or just live there freely. You must renew it every 5 years. Most people don't get Type R directly. First, you get a different visa for 2-5 years. Then you switch to Type R. Only rich investors skip the waiting period. The Type R visa gives you freedom to do whatever you want—work, study, start a business, or just live there. This is different from visitor visas (short-term) or work visas (specific job). Once approved, you can stay as long as you want (as long as you renew it every 5 years).

- Married to Colombian with 3 years on spousal visa
- Parent of Colombian child with 2 years on parental visa
- Invested $130,000+ in property or $37,000+ in business
- Venezuelan with special migration status
- Must be 18+ (or dependent child)
- No serious criminal record
- Have health insurance
- Show stable income or money
- Can support dependents
Financial Requirement
Show you have money to live. Retired: ~$250/month. Real estate investor: $130,085 minimum. Business investor: $37,116 minimum. Others: Proof of stable income. Proof: Bank statements (6 months), pension letters, investment papers.
