About this Visa

The German Student Applicant Visa lets you go to Germany to finish getting accepted to university. You use it if you have a conditional offer from a German university but haven't been fully admitted yet. This visa is active and still available. You can use this time to pass entrance exams, take language classes, or complete a preparatory course. It's designed specifically for the final step before you start your degree. This visa is different from a regular student visa because you don't have a confirmed admission letter yet. Once you get admitted to your program, you switch to a regular student visa.

Eligibility & Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have finished high school or equivalent
  • Must have conditional or provisional acceptance from German university
  • Must prove you have €11,904 (about $14,000) per year
  • Must have valid health insurance
  • Must know German (B2 level) or English (B2 level)
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Must not be trying to stay in Germany illegally

Financial Requirement

You must show you have $14,000 USD per year (€11,904). You do this by opening a blocked bank account in Germany with this amount, or getting a sponsorship letter from a German resident.
