About this Visa

This visa lets non-European researchers and PhD students live and work in Greece for long-term studies or research. You can stay for more than 90 days (up to one year per entry visa). The visa is for people doing doctoral research at Greek universities or research institutions. The visa is still active and available in 2025. Greece welcomes researchers from all countries. You work and study under Greek law just like you would if you were a student.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be admitted to PhD program at Greek university or have research agreement with Greek institution
  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Valid passport required
  • No criminal record
  • No serious health issues
  • Must not pose security threat to Greece
  • Must be able to show €400/month financial support

Financial Requirement

Minimum €400/month (approximately $470 USD) for doctoral students. Prove with bank statements (3+ months), scholarship letter from university, or university letter confirming they cover your living costs.
