About this Visa

This visa lets you study traditional Japanese arts and culture full-time in Japan. You cannot work for money, but you can focus completely on learning. Examples include flower arranging (ikebana), tea ceremony, martial arts, dance, and calligraphy. The government rarely approves this visa. It's designed for people serious about learning Japanese culture, not casual tourists. You need a school or teacher to sponsor you and proof you can pay for everything. This visa is different because you don't earn money while you're here. You study unpaid. The government watches carefully to make sure you're really learning, not working illegally.
