About this Visa

This visa lets you start and run a business in Japan. You become the owner and manager of a Japanese company. You control all business decisions and hire employees. It's one of Japan's hardest visas to get. You need substantial money and management experience. As of October 16, 2025, requirements became much stricter with a capital requirement of 30 million yen and mandatory business experience or Master's degree. The visa is active and accepting applications. If you already have this visa, you have until October 16, 2028 to meet the new requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be 18 years or older
  • No criminal record
  • Speak Japanese at business level (JLPT N2) OR have employee who does
  • Have 3+ years managing a business OR have a Master's degree
  • Have 1 full-time employee (Japanese national, permanent resident, or on qualifying visa)
  • Have a real office space (not home-based)
  • Pay taxes and insurance on time

Financial Requirement

You must have 30 million yen ($192,500 USD) saved or invested in your business. You need bank statements proving this money is yours. Borrowed money is okay but needs written loan agreements.
