The Instructor visa lets you work as a teacher or language instructor at Japanese schools. You teach students English, other languages, or educational subjects. This visa is for people with a bachelor's degree who have a job offer from a school in Japan. You can work full-time at your school and stay in Japan long-term. Eligibility Criteria

  • Age 18 or older
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Job offer from Japanese school
  • No criminal record
  • Good health
  • If teaching foreign language: 12 years of education in that language
  • If not native speaker: 5+ years teaching experience can replace 12-year requirement

Financial Requirement

No official minimum. Salary must be sufficient to live in Japan. Typical teaching salary: $1,600-$2,500 per month.
