About this Visa
The SSW is a work visa for people who have occupational skills and want to work in Japan. Japan created this visa in 2019 because it needs skilled workers in specific industries. You can apply if you have the right job offer and pass a skills test. This visa lets you work and live in Japan longer than visitor visas, and some types allow you to bring family.

Eligibility & Requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be 18 or older (no upper limit)
- JLPT N4 language level or JFT-Basic level (intermediate)

- Pass medical examination (no serious illness)
- Have signed contract with Japanese employer
- No criminal record
- Ability to work without extensive training (most industries want some experience)
- Technical Intern Training graduates exempt from language and skills tests
Financial Requirement
No minimum amount set by law. Must prove ability to support yourself in Japan with your salary. Employer helps demonstrate this with job contract.
