About this Visa

The E-3 visa is for people who want to do research or development work in South Korea. You can research natural science, social science, history, art, sports—basically any academic field. Universities, government research centers, and private companies can hire you under this visa. This visa lets you work legally at a research institution in South Korea. You can do your research job, teach classes at universities sometimes, and change jobs if needed. Your family (spouse and children under 19) can come with you. The E-3 is one of the easiest work visas to get in South Korea because your employer does most of the paperwork for you.

Eligibility & Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have a Master's degree with 3+ years work experience in related field, OR PhD in any field
  • No age limit
  • Clean background - no serious crimes
  • No history of overstaying visas in any country
  • Your degree field and job field must be related
  • TB test must be negative if from high-TB-burden countries
  • Your job cannot appear to be low-wage exploitation of your qualifications

Financial Requirement

No minimum income requirement. Your employer must prove they can pay you and that the research institution is real and has money.
