About this Visa
This visa lets you live in Norway forever. You get it after living and working (or studying) in Norway for 3+ years with a valid work or study permit. Once you have it, you never need to renew it. You can stay, work, and live in Norway indefinitely. The main difference from other visas: you don't need an employer to sponsor you anymore. You can change jobs, start a business, or leave work without losing your residency. Your family can join you too.

Eligibility & Requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- 3+ years continuous residence in Norway with valid work, study, or family permits
- Passed Norwegian language exam (B1 spoken level)
- Passed social studies exam
- Earned 325,400 NOK annually in the past 12 months (some exemptions apply)
- Stayed in Norway – cannot have been outside Norway more than 7 months in the 3-year period
- No serious criminal record
- Current valid permit – must still have your work/study permit when you apply
- Age 18+ (if under 18, your parents can apply for you)
Financial Requirement
You must have earned at least 325,400 NOK per year (about $30,300 USD) for the past 12 months. Income from salary, business, pensions, student loans, and benefits count. Spouse income, gifts, and savings do not count.
