About this Visa
The D6 visa lets you bring your spouse, children, and dependents to live with you in Portugal. You must already live in Portugal with a valid residence permit. Your family members get the same rights as you—they can work, go to school, and use free healthcare. This is Portugal's main way for families to reunite legally. Starting October 2025, you and your family must take Portuguese language classes and culture classes. You don't need to pass a test to get the visa, but classes are required once approved.

Eligibility Criteria
- Sponsor has valid Portuguese residence permit
- Sponsor lived in Portugal 2 years (exception: if you have children, highly skilled worker, or golden visa holder)
- Sponsor earns enough to support family
- Sponsor has suitable housing
- Sponsor has no serious criminal record
- Family member is spouse or registered partner (18+)
- Family member is child under 18
- Family member is adult child in school and financially dependent
- Family member is dependent parent or first-degree relative
- Family member is minor sibling in sponsor's care
Financial Requirement
Sponsor must earn minimum €870/month ($1,017). Add €435 for spouse and €261 per dependent child. Must prove income with bank statements, pay stubs, or tax records.
