About this Visa
This visa lets you bring your spouse or partner to live with you in Portugal. You must already have a residence permit in Portugal to sponsor them. Your spouse or partner can then work, study, and access healthcare just like other residents. This visa is specifically for married couples, registered partners, or long-term unmarried partners recognized by Portuguese law. The visa lets your family reunite and build a life together in Portugal. You can work, send children to school, and use Portuguese hospitals without any restrictions. After 5 years, you can apply for permanent residency and Portuguese citizenship. Starting October 2025, Portugal made the visa stricter with a 2-year waiting period before applying and mandatory Portuguese language training for reunified family members. The process is slower but remains a solid path for family reunification.
