About this Visa

This visa lets you study for a degree (bachelor's, master's, or PhD) in Taiwan. You must be enrolled full-time at a recognized Taiwan university. When you arrive, the visa converts to an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)—your official ID while you study. You can work part-time, and you can stay 1-3 years if you renew your ARC each year. Taiwan actively recruits international students. The program has been improved recently to make it easier to work after graduation. No restrictions on academic fields of study.

Key Benefits

  • Work part-time: 20 hours/week during school; 40 hours/week on breaks
  • Work after graduation: stay 1-2 extra years to find job
  • Healthcare: national health insurance covers doctors, hospitals, medicine, dental, Chinese medicine
  • Bring family: spouse and children can get residency
  • Travel freely: get re-entry permits to leave and return
