About this Visa

This visa lets skilled workers from any country come to South Africa to work in jobs that are hard to fill locally. You need a job offer in a field South Africa says it needs—like engineering, IT, healthcare, or accounting. This visa is for people with degrees and work experience. You can bring your family. It's the quickest way to eventually get permanent residence. Important: Permanent residence is NOT automatic. If you want to stay permanently, you need to apply separately and prove you have "extraordinary skills" (higher than just being on the skills list). This changed in February 2022—it's much harder now.

Key Benefits

  • Work in your field for up to 5 years
  • Bring spouse and children
  • Renew your visa when it expires
  • Path to permanent residence
  • Leave and return during validity
